About

CO-Fund’s mission is to facilitate the funding of higher learning for deserving, college-ready students. We are an early-stage, non-profit company that empowers individuals to fund students’ college educations by connecting them with qualified students through an online, peer-to-peer donation platform. Our team is comprised of a talented and entrepreneurial group of Brown University students that have the shared vision of leveraging the power of micro-finance and technology to benefit students and their communities. CO-Fund is launching in the Spring of 2010, sponsored in part by Rhode Islanders Sponsoring Education (RISE) which provides CO-Fund with a not-for-profit 501 ©(3) tax-exempt status. Our pilot program will include students and partner organizations primarily from Rhode Island, testing a small group of students to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach before scaling to work nationwide. CO-Fund is a unique hybrid; a non-profit mission, scalable and cost effective technology, and the organization and energy of an internet start-up. We succeed not by making money but by funding and empowering students to succeed.

This is a fantastic idea. In light of all the collection difficulties faced by loan-based microfinance organizations, CO-Fund seems to have found a way to streamline the donation process. Good Show!
